Grant Associates y Gustafson Porter han ganado el concurso internacional, organizado por la Comisión de Parques Nacionales de Singapur, para diseñar -Gardens by the Bay- [Jardines en la Bahía]. Los jardines forman parte de una de las fases del masterplan de la ciudad y están integrados en la Bahía Marina, ocupando 101 hectáreas de primera línea de playa.

-Bay South- [Bahía Sur], diseñada por el estudio de arquitectura paisajística Grant Associates, constituye el jardín más grande del masterplan, con 54 hectáreas. Está situado junto a la Bahía Marina, quedando integrado en la playa.

Los jardines de -Bay South- han sido diseñados con estructuras de entre 30 y 55 metros de altura similares a árboles: los -superárboles- configuran jardines verticales y crean un escaparate vertical de plantas trepadoras con flores, musgos y helechos. Por la noche, estas marquesinas reviven mediante sistemas de iluminación y proyecciones.

-Bay South- contiene además un invernadero con bioclimas frescos húmedos y secos, que exhibe plantas y flores de bosques tropicales y ecosistemas mediterráneos.

En la zona occidental de Marina Barrage se sitúa -Bay East- [Bahía Este], con un tamaño de 32 hectáreas. El diseño de Gustafson Porter incluye jardines acuáticos con terrazas que discurren hacia la orilla de la bahía y una galería cubierta para barcos. Contiene además un centro educativo que explica la historia del agua en la naturaleza y enseña de forma creativa e interactiva la relación simbiótica entre las plantas, los animales y el agua en un ecosistema acuático.

La primera fase de los jardines tiene previsto abrirse en 2011.

Grant Associates and Gustafson Porter have won an international competition, organised by Singapore's National Parks Board, to design Gardens by the Bay, part of the next phase of the city's masterplan. The gardens will occupy 101 hectares of prime land by the water and will become part of Marina Bay.

Bay South, designed by landscape architecture firm Grant Associates, will be the largest garden at 54 hectares and will be located next to the Marina Bay integrated resort. The Conservatory Complex will comprise a -Cool Moist- biome and a -Cool Dry- biome, displaying plants and flowers from the Tropical Montane [Cloud Forest] and Mediterranean environments respectively. Designed as tree-like structures between 30 metres and 55 metres in height, the -Supertrees- are uniquely designed vertical gardens, creating a vertical display of tropical flowering climbers, epiphytes and ferns. At night, these canopies will come alive with lighting and projected media.

Gardens by the Bay en Singapur [Grant Associates y Gustafson Porter].

Sitting in the western bank of Marina Barrage, Bay East will be 32 hectares in size. Gustafson Porter's design includes water gardens with terraces that cascade down to the Bay's edge, a Boat House Piazza and an education centre that will tell the story of water in nature, and teach in a creative and interactive manner the symbiotic relationship between plants, animals and water in an aquatic ecosystem.

The first phase of the gardens is scheduled to open in 2011. [2010-01-13]
